In the Intermediate Department (grades 4-6), students grow in academic
skills and
character through development of responsibility, positive attitude, and
increased independence.
Students have specialist teachers for science, music, art, physical education,
technology,
and woodshop, and a homeroom teacher for math, language arts, and social
studies.
Social studies provides a theme for much of the work in language arts.
Interscholastic
sports begin in fourth grade.
Sixth graders go to the junior high to start Spanish. Joint activities
with the junior high
and regular communication between teachers in grades six and seven help
prepare
students for the transition to seventh grade.
Character building continues to be an important aspect of education. Students
learn
decision making skills by building upon the core values of love, respect,
responsibility,
and honesty that are instilled in Berkeley Hall students beginning in
the nursery.
