Primary and intermediate students wait anxiously for their weekly
class period in our 2,000 square foot woodshop. Working with basic
tools, they create projects inspired by the core curriculum such as
“Where the Wild Things Are” masks, American pioneer wagons,
bird houses for birds native to Southern California, and a
re-creation of the White House. Students gain gradual
skill development and confidence in building along
with a knowledge of tools and safety.

The junior high woodshop program offers three elective
courses. “Projects in Wood” is for seventh graders new to
Berkeley Hall. “Building: Green and Sustainable”, allows classmates
to build a home to scale using environmental and sustainable materials.
Lastly, “Shop and Shield” continues a 60-year-old Berkeley Hall tradition
in which eighth graders design and build a class coat of arms to grace the
walls of our Hodges Theater.
