Dr. Staley Speaks at CAIS

I’ve been thinking recently about how much I appreciate our parents’ support of our Depth of Study work. We feel as though this work is starting to yield great academic results for our students and we cherish the time we have to professionally collaborate on Wednesday mornings (and often at other times during the week). The professional work we’re doing here at Berkeley Hall caught the attention of the California Association of Independent Schools (the organization of which we and other independent schools are members and which is responsible for reviewing and accrediting our school).

Jim McManus, CAIS’ Executive Director, asked that I present our Depth of Study work to the CAIS statewide Assessment Task Force last Friday. I was much encouraged by feedback from Jim and the task force members. They asked many questions about how our school has been able to develop a system-wide professional development system that leads to clearer standards for students and teachers alike and they characterized Berkeley Hall’s approach as “brave” and educationally “cutting edge.” I deeply appreciate our BHS teachers for their willingness to work both inside and outside their classrooms to continually improve our students’ learning.
