Tuition covers only part of a Berkeley Hall education. Annual giving bridges the gap for every student, not just those receiving financial aid. Your support helps us hire exceptional teachers, grow our programs, and keep Berkeley Hall accessible.

Annual Fund Drive

The Annual Fund Drive is the foundation of our fundraising efforts, providing vital support for our programs and enhancing the daily experience of students and faculty.

Through the Family of Funds, donors can direct their gifts to the area they care most about or choose to support our area of greatest need. This approach ensures that every gift aligns with both our mission and your passion.

We do not receive government funding and intentionally keep tuition lower. Our six-week drive helps close the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each child—about $7,000 per student. This allows our community to make up the difference through tax-deductible donations. We ask every family, board member, faculty, and staff to contribute to support our programs as well as strengthen our ability to receive grants from foundations.

Endowment

Gifts that Keep on Giving

An endowment (invested reserves) is a fund that is invested and maintained in perpetuity. Each year, a percentage of the annual income—dividends, interest, and capital appreciation—is distributed to support the specific purpose designated by the donor (e.g., financial aid, or faculty professional development). The remaining income is added to the endowment principal to help preserve the purchasing power of the endowment over time. Endowments provide a stable income for the school and foster academic excellence.

While gifts of all sizes may support our current endowments, you can also establish a new endowment with a gift of $250,000 or more. Endowed funds can be named in honor of or in tribute to an individual. Donors build strong ties with the School, receive annual reports on the impact of their endowments, and are invited to attend special functions.

Planned Giving

Planned gifts are made now and distributed in the future. You can name Berkeley Hall School as a beneficiary of your:

Or fund a charitable gift annuity or trust that may provide you with tax benefits and income.

Naming Berkeley Hall School gives donors the opportunity to receive immediate or deferred tax benefits while leaving a legacy. Consult our Planned Giving Guide, then complete and submit the Planned Giving Notification Form.

When you notify us of a planned gift, you become a member of The Cooper Society and will be recognized in our Annual Report.

Major Gifts

Periodically, Berkeley Hall undertakes special projects that require funding beyond the scope of our annual giving program—such as building renovations, new program development, or campus improvements. These efforts are supported through major gifts: significant, one-time contributions designated for a specific purpose. While major gifts initiatives are separate from annual giving, they are more targeted and time-bound than a full-scale capital campaign, making them a vital bridge between yearly support and long-term transformational efforts.

Alumni Fellowship Fund

As a grateful alumna of Berkeley Hall, Betty McMicken '57 paid it forward by establishing the BHS Fellowship Fund. This initiative supports deserving families, lessening the financial burden of tuition and ensuring that future generations have the same chance to thrive. She's committed to matching donations up to $25,000 per year for the next five years.

Stock Gifts

Donating gifts of appreciated securities like stocks that have been held for more than twelve months can be advantageous for many donors.

These gifts represent a two-fold savings opportunity: donors avoid paying capital gains taxes on the increased values of their stocks and receive a tax deduction for the full market value of the stock on the date of the gift.

Matching Gifts

Many corporations show support for Berkeley Hall School by matching their employees' donations. If your employer offers this benefit, you will be recognized for the combined amount of your gift and your employer's match.

Donor Advised Funds

Directing a gift through a donor-advised fund (DAF) is relatively simple with most providers:

When specifying the organization, please make sure you've selected Berkeley Hall School Foundation DBA Berkeley Hall School with the tax identification number 95-1683864.
Please request that your institution mail the check to the following address:

When asked to designate a purpose for the funds, please be specific (e.g., “Berkeley Hall Annual Fund” or “Spring Fundraiser”). Alternatively, you can choose the “where needed most” default option with most funds; Berkeley Hall’s policy is to apply gifts with that designation to the Berkeley Hall School Annual Fund.
Once you've recommended the gift to your institution, please notify the Advancement Office of the details. If possible, please also provide the receipt or confirmation; while not required, this helps ensure gifts are properly documented when received.

Pledges

A pledge is simply a promise to make a donation at a later date. The gift can be made by any of the methods below except donor-advised funds (DAFs).* Properly submitted pledges are counted immediately toward participation in the Berkeley Hall School Annual Fund or any other campaign.

Make a pledge now to pay a donation to the Berkeley Hall Annual Fund at a later date. Pledges for a given school year must be paid before June 30 of that year.

To pledge for a different purpose, please contact Bria Verdugo-Uy at bverdugouy@berkeleyhall.org. Verbal pledges cannot be accepted or recorded.

* Donors cannot make pledges through DAFs because of the nature of those organizations. We will, however, note your intent to give once you've recommended the grant from your DAF.
