1st BHS Beach Cleanup a Success!
On Sunday, March 13th, many BHS families met up just north of the Santa Monica Pier and spent a few hours cleaning up the beach in collaboration with Heal The Bay.
It was a gorgeous Southern California day, a soft ocean breeze, sunshine gazing down warmly, clouds billowing and beautiful, an overall great day to be a Bobcat at the beach. Students documented for Heal the Bay the type of trash they found and were surprised to know that straws were one of the biggest trash offenders on the beach. This event was the first of three beach clean-ups committed to by our students in partnership with Heal the Bay. We hope that you'll join BHS for the next two beach clean ups which will happen sometime before March 13, 2017. The student council was thinking about planning the 2nd beach clean up this summer? Way to go bobcats! Thank you for making a difference! How did this event come about?
The Primary and Intermediate Student Council have been passionate about saving the ocean animals and they thought one way to do this would be to clean up our beaches. Banou and Ameerah created a PowerPoint presentation and Banou presented the options to the school after chapel to decide whether students should partner with Heal the Bay - and Adopt a Beach - a three-time commitment to cleaning up one specific beach OR just a one time BHS cleanup. The student body voted to partner with Heal the Bay.
