Scholastic Art Contest Winners!

The Scholastic Art and Writing Contest is the oldest and most prestigious student contest in the country. This year, over 330,000 works were submitted from across the country in a variety of categories. Students can begin competing when they are in 7th grade. Nine junior high Bobcats entered sixteen works of art - the highest number of students we've had enter at one time. Here’s the truly remarkable news: each student placed! And, each of the 16 pieces of art also placed! In the past, we’ve been thrilled if one artwork placed, since each level of achievement is very high. There are three levels of recognition: Honorable Mention, Silver, and Gold.
All told, our students collected 13 Honorable Mentions. Most of these were in the most competitive category - Drawing/Illustration. In addition, one student earned an H.M. in Painting, one student won H.M. in the Tolerance category, while another earned a Silver in that category! One student earned 3 H.M.s in photography, as well as a Silver and a Gold! That’s the highest number of awards collected by a Bobcat in a single contest! Eighth grader Sophie D.’s Gold Key winner is now competing against all gold winners at the national level. We will learn the results during Youth Art Month in March.
