Problem Solving is a Family Affair
Elif Cercel

“There’s often more than one way to solve a problem,” says Mrs. Neale, as Seventh and Eighth Grade mathematicians are discovering through the Problem of the Week. Students are demonstrating they have many strategies in their wheelhouse, from trial-and-error to making a chart, writing an equation, or applying logic.

The Problem of the Week gives students the opportunity to earn extra credit in math by solving a different problem each week and then submitting their solution and reasoning with an equation, diagram, or written explanation. Every Monday, a new problem is presented, with solutions due Friday.

Students pledge to do the work honestly, but that can include working with a friend or bringing it home to do as a family. Mrs. Neale challenges you to take a look at this week’s Problem of the Week and see if you can solve it. If you can’t, just ask a Seventh or Eighth Grade student!
