BHS Named California Exemplary Art Program

Berkeley Hall's art program was honored at the California Art Education Association state conference November 13-15, 2015 in Sacramento as an exemplary program in the state. Berkeley Hall's Art Teacher Tracy Cheney was honored for her Exemplary Use of Gifted and Talented, Integration, and Sequential Program in Visual Art Education.

When elementary arts education funds were cut at different times over the years, Mrs. Cheney found other ways to continue delivering art programs to children. She believes in their importance to key stages of child development. She's been teaching visual art at Berkeley Hall School in Los Angeles since 2009.

“That's why I love working in this field. And feel it's more important than ever in the age of ubiquitous handheld electronics to provide a necessary counterbalance for children through comprehensive elementary art programs. This quote from Albert Einstein describes the purpose of all art programs very well: "Creativity is intelligence having fun."
