Difference Maker Robert Egger of The L.A. Kitchen

As Founder and President of The L.A. Kitchen, Mr. Egger’s life for the last 30 years has been all about reducing waste and improving lives. He will speak to our community on Thursday, October 13, at 2:10pm, at the Uhlmann Performing Arts Center in Hodges Theater. All are welcome!

L.A. Kitchen’s Mission is: “Neither food nor people should ever go to waste. By purchasing and reclaiming cosmetically imperfect fruits and vegetables, that would otherwise be discarded, and using them to train and create culinary jobs for unemployed men and women, create scratch-cooked, healthy meals for the community. Through this process, L.A. Kitchen reveals the power of food to strengthen, nourish, and engage.”

Reducing food waste - L.A. Kitchen recovers or purchases fresh, nutritious purchases fresh, nutritious produce that would otherwise go to waste.

Reducing the waste of people’s talents – Working with youths aging out of foster care, returning citizens, and the newly housed, Empower LA (an affiliated organization) provides opportunities for employment in the foodservice industry.

Reducing hunger - L.A. Kitchen strives to be the premier high-quality, scratch made nutrition partner for social service agencies and institutions that serve the aging community.

Mr. Egger saw good food going to waste, people without jobs, and people going hungry. He wanted to make a difference – so he put these elements together and started what has become one of the most successful programs to conquer all three problems.
