Confidence. Camaraderie. Character.

At Berkeley Hall, athletics matters. It’s how students grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. From the first swim lesson to the final middle school baseball game, our program is built to support that growth, and spark a lifelong love of movement.

Consideration of others is as integral across our courts and playing fields as it is within our classrooms.

A Program Built for Balance

We believe students can have many passions. Our athletics program is designed to work in harmony with academics and electives, so your child can play soccer and be in the spring musical. Our coaches and teachers collaborate to make it possible for students to explore and thrive. Whether your child is a seasoned athlete or new to sports, they’ll find space here to belong and develop.

Physical Education

Daily Movement. Lifelong Habits.

Our P.E. program is built into the school day, with a robust, intentional curriculum that spans every grade level. Students have physical education four to five times per week, led by teachers who focus on skill-building, fitness, and personal growth.

Students explore traditional sports like basketball, flag football, track, and soccer alongside fitness and wellness lessons.

Our interscholastic Team Sports Program begins in Grade 4 and runs through Grade 8. We offer more than 28 teams across the school year, with students competing in:

With experienced and dedicated coaches, inclusive team culture, and our expansive sports facilities, students experience a wide range of sports, that include Ultimate Frisbee, Pickleball, and beginner rugby.

No matter the score, our goals stay the same: to build teamwork, responsibility, resilience, and a love of the game.

What Makes Berkeley Hall Athletics Special?

We're coaching strong athletes, kind teammates, and brave learners.
  • Students are encouraged to try multiple sports to discover what excites them
  • Coaches hold high standards for students, while creating an experience based on progress and fun
  • New athletes are supported. Advanced athletes are challenged and often given leadership opportunities.
  • Games and practices are low-pressure, high-energy, and full of school spirit
  • End-of-season events like parent-student games strengthen the bond between school and home

We want to create lifelong movers - kids who leave BHS with the confidence to join a pickup game, coach a team, or lead with joy anywhere in the world.

Swimming: A Berkeley Hall Signature

From first splash to one-mile swim.

Swimming is a core part of the BHS experience. Students start as early as Nursery, building comfort and safety in the water from a young age. By eighth grade, students swim a full mile and often support peers who are still learning.

  • Small class sizes allow for individualized instruction
  • Fall units focus on technique: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, diving, and turns
  • Spring units add fun and challenge: water polo, treading water, and team games
  • Our experienced coaching team includes swim club leaders, certified instructors, and lifeguards

We compete in the San Fernando Valley League in the Fall, breaking records, collecting medals, and experiencing inter-school sportsmanship in a thrilling environment. For students not ready for the competitive team, our Spring Swim Club offers a supportive way to build skill and confidence.
