Matt Flavin

Elementary Science Teacher
Education B.A., Elementary education and Sociology, Principia College and Maryville University

Bio For over twenty years, Mr. Flavin has been working with youth in some capacity. He’s taught kindergarten, second grade, third grade, at the college level, run an outdoor education center for middle school students, and volunteered with The Jane Goodall Institute. In addition to having a teaching credential, he completed graduate course work in Gifted Education and Curriculum and Instruction.

Why do I love teaching? Perhaps what I appreciate most about teaching is the fact that learning is dynamic. The classroom is an active laboratory and students learn by doing. I love learning, and I love being part of the a-ha moments that children have daily.  I also enjoy helping to draw out student’s innate sense of wonder, inquiry, exploration and observation.
