2nd Grade Art

Second graders began the year by studying line and shape.
We looked at many types of lines such as wavy, curvy, loopy, zigzag, dotted, and dash, thick, and thin. Students used rulers and markers to draw lines on an image of their choice – a fish, sports equipment, or a guitar. We then moved into a unit on shape where we looked at organic and geometric shapes, and explored the colorful art of Henri Matisse.

Students created a collage after the style of Mattisse with watercolor, acrylic paint, and vibrant construction paper. In addition, second graders practiced drawing from a photograph. They used oil pastels to draw lines that express thoughts and emotions related to a photograph of their school playground.
