"Ring" Actress Kelly Stables Visits BHS

Priceless were the looks on 7th grader's faces when veteran actress Kelly Stables (IMDb link to her credits) described how the crew of The Ring Two suspended her upside down for a whole day of shooting to create the special effect of her character pulling another character out of a television.
Kelly Stables couldn't have been sweeter. She came to BHS to visit with the 7th grade class (at the invitation of creative writing teacher Rob Miller) with an open and generous heart. Her self-described diminutive frame and youthful demeanor snagged her the role of a child in the film. Each day required 5 1/2 hours of special effects makeup to transform her into the evil Samara.

Kelly told story after story of how different special effects were achieved and helped make the images in this horror movie (seen by most of the students) seem less scary. "I don't like scary movies myself," said Kelly. "But when I went to the screening, it wasn't scary to me because it was like looking at a scrap book. When I'd see a scene, I'd think of that day on the set. 'Oh, that was the day they served lobster at craft service (food service on a movie set) or that was the day so-and-so got food poisoning.' And I'd think about all the technical things happening on the set outside of the frame I was watching on the screen."
