Yosemite Outdoor Education

Eighth graders spent this past week in Yosemite Valley for their Outdoor Education Trip. This trip has historically been one of the most talked-about topics in graduation speeches. It gives students a week in nature's classroom being challenged: their physical strength, their stamina, and their intelligence are tested; their character is tested; their friendships and team-building skills are tested. And they do it all while hiking in Yosemite. We look forward to hearing their stories in the ensuing weeks.
BHS Science teacher Susan Stodden texted updates each day to let us know how the kids were doing.

Tuesday:
6:48am - Headed to breakfast soon with smiling happy kids. Slept well inall new cabins. Skies are perfectly clear with no smoke.

5:47pm - Everything's going great! Tomorrow the boys head to back-country, while the girls go on a spectacular-view waterfall hike.

Wednesday:
Girls did fabulously on their very steep hike to Vernal Falls. At the top they said they felt 'inspired, successful, accomplished, proud, relieved, and happy.'

No news is good news from the boys I'm sure they would use the same words to describe the trip.

Thursday:
Girls were amazing today! They all made it through the spider caves, which are very dark and have tight squeezes. They only made it through with teamwork and encouragements!

Boys return tomorrow morning from the back-country. Then everyone heads home together. All are looking forward to sharing their experiences when they return.
