Catalina Trip Highlights

"This has to be the best field trip ever!" Sixth graders' exclamations to their parents late Friday afternoon affirmed that their outdoor education trip to Catalina Island had a big impact on them. Aside from the many fun and exciting activities, the students forged new friendships during three days and two nights with the Catalina Island Marine Institute at Toyon Bay. They loved snorkeling on the first afternoon, followed by an astronomy hike that evening. Thursday started off in marine labs, with both flora and fauna including small sharks. The afternoon was spent conquering the challenge of the climbing walls. That evening we enjoyed the terrestrial lab, followed by a top-secret adventure, dark and mysterious! Our final morning we captured stunning views of the ocean on a nature hike up and down Toyon Canyon. Happy and exhausted "scientists" greeted their parents, ready for a well-deserved three-day weekend.
