La Gran Tenochtitlán

Profe Olguin-Lucas
Did you ever wonder what life must have been in what we now know as Mexico City during pre-Columbian times?  In Spanish class, the 8th grade had  an opportunity to  study Diego Rivera’s mural titled, “La Gran Tenochtitlán,”  In doing so, the students got an insight of  Rivera’s view of the bustling marketplace in the capital city of the Aztec Empire. As one student wrote, “the impression I believe Rivera was giving about life in this pre-Columbian civilization was that it was very much a community in which trading and helping your fellow neighbors by sharing goods played a big role.   Another student wrote, “Rivera’s mural gives us a glimpse of what the city looked like back then.  In the background is a beautiful sight with mountains and temples.  The foreground shows the people trading and it shows how they dressed. “Diego Rivera’s painting is a great image to admire and get an idea of what life was like during pre-Columbian times.
