5th Grade State Floats
After gathering "fast facts" on the computer about their chosen states, students turned their attention to float-building. They brainstormed and planned how to incorporate into a float the many fascinating facts, points of interests, and amazing visuals they'd learned about their state and make the floats the best they could be. Then students worked over the course of several weeks to complete their project at home and were encouraged to include original creations on their float rather than purchase items to represent the topography, economy, culture, etc. Parental input, coaching, and monitoring progress were vital to the final results. Students were eager to compare notes on float-building technique and artistry during their classroom presentations. The results every year are simply stunning!
