Berkeley Hall School offers extended day care to meet the child care needs of busy families. Students on campus must be under the supervision of a parent or Berkeley Hall faculty member at all times. The school provides supervision from 7:15am until the start of school and from the end of school until 3:45pm at no additional charge to parents. There is a charge (as described below) for after-school care. We endeavor to make this quality auxiliary service as inexpensive as possible for parents, while also generating enough income to cover our operating costs.

As a service to parents whose work schedules necessitate after-school care for their children, Berkeley Hall provides study halls, staffed by faculty members, from 3:35 until 4:35pm and group care from 4:35 until 6:00pm. Care is available only until 5:30pm for children in Nursery and Junior Kindergarten. Several after-school activity classes are also available. Fees for these classes are paid directly to the activity leader. Practices for interscholastic sports teams (grades 4-8) take place after school. There is no charge for participation in interscholastic sports.
After School Care Policies:
• For parents who need after school care on a daily or frequent basis, a trimester coupon (covering all or any portion of the 3:35-6:00 period) is available for $500. Note that each trimester requires a separate coupon. A coupon covers all children from one family. However, separate coupons are required for any additional families in a carpool.
• For parents who require occasional after-school child care, coupons covering one hour of after school care are available. The price of a 1/4-hour coupon is $3.00 (or $12 for an hour coupon). Care from 3:35-6:00 requires 9 ¼-hour coupons or 2 1-hour and one ¼-hour coupons (or 3:35-5:30 for Nursery, Junior Kindergarten, or Kindergarten students requires 7 ¼-hour coupons or one 1-hour and three ¼-hour coupons). Students in after school sports are released at 5:00pm and will start being charged $3.00 per 1/4-hour at 5:15pm. A coupon covers all children from one family. However, separate coupons are required for any additional families in a carpool.
• Coupons may be purchased by check from the office specialist, 7:30am-4:00pm daily. They may also be purchased by check or credit card from the XDC supervisor in the ECD Commons.
• There is no child care after 6:00pm. An additional $1/minute will be charged for each minute beyond 6:00pm.
• There is no care after 12:00 pm on early dismissal days. $10 for every additional half hour will be charged on early dismissal days beginning at 12:20pm.
• The faculty member in charge of after school care (the XDC supervisor) keeps track of all students in the program. Therefore all students must be picked up from the ECD Commons. Students will not be released to parents from study hall or the school office.
• Students participating in activity classes, teacher conferences, sports teams, or other school-sponsored activities have a 15 minute grace period after the activity ends before charges apply.
• Parent volunteers preparing for special school events are not charged for after-school care for their children while they are working at the school. The XDC supervisor must be notified on a daily basis of such an exemption. Children must be picked up within 15 minutes after the volunteer work is completed.
