Problem Solvers Unite

"I like working with a partner, and I like a challenge!," commented one 7th grader following this week's Problem Solving Workshop. There's no better way to put students' math skills to the test than to set them to work on solving "real world" problems. it's exciting to watch and listen as they debate strategies and solutions and hone their mathematical reasoning capibilities. These workshops also challenge students to combine multi-layered concepts in one problem. Here's an example...
from one of this week's 7th grade workshops: 9/10 of the class received a 70% or higher on an exam. Of the students receiving 70% or higher, 1/4 received 90% or higher. What fraction of all the students received 90% or higher. Having trouble coming up with the answer? Ask a student from 7X for help!
